FAQs
Do you offer face-to-face, in-person appointments? Yes, we see clients in-person on Tuesdays and Thursdays in Las Vegas, NV. Otherwise, PsychMatters is a fully virtual practice. We only offer telepsych appointments for clients 13+ years old in Nevada, Oregon, andWashington currently.
Why don’t you accept my insurance plan? Please see “Insurance” section.
For which type of session do I make an appointment? Great question! If you are a new patient, then you must make a new patient appointment. After this appointment, your provider will let you know which appointment type to sign up for in the future. If you prefer a face-to-face appointment and are located in Las Vegas, then pick that option when scheduling an appointment.
If I am prescribed a medication, how will I get the prescription? Dr. Stewart will send the prescription directly to the pharmacy electronically.
What psychiatric diagnoses are not covered by the PsychMatters team? This is very important, as no provider can cover every diagnosis equally. Dr. Stewart does not treat clients younger than 13 years old at this time. If you are curious about if Dr. Stewart can assist you, send us a short message and we’ll get back to you quickly.
I need a refill on my prescription, but there are no appointments available. What should I do? We make every effort to set up your next appointment at the end of your current session so that issues like this can be avoided. To maintain accountability and responsibility, patients need to keep track of their medications and make the necessary appointments. Dr. Stewart may choose to put in a one-time refill without an appointment, depending on the medication, length of care history, and other factors. A fee may be assessed for this service.
Do you provide therapy sessions? As part of every session, talk therapy may be utilized. However, the focus of our sessions is on medication management as only MD, DO, NP, and PA can offer that service. Therapy, however, is available from a wider circle of professional practitioners like LCSW, PsyD, LMFT, plus other healthcare providers specializing in therapy.
Does PsychMatters have plans to expand telepsych services to other states? Not at this time.
Does PsychMatters offer “after hours” on-call, emergency psychiatric services? No. If you are experiencing a psychiatric emergency, we recommend calling 911 or local mental health emergency services. Otherwise, you should visit your local Emergency Department to discuss your concerns. Any necessary treatment can be provided immediately in a safe environment.
What is PsychMatters approach to prescribing controlled substances, like stimulants, pain medications, and benzodiazepines? Each of these medications has an important role to play in treating appropriate mental or somatic illnesses. With the exception of pain medications, stimulants and benzos may be prescribed as warranted following evidence-based best practices. They are used judiciously, however, given their abuse potential. Narcotic pain medications are not prescribed as it falls outside of Dr. Stewart’s scope of practice.
Does PsychMatters provide psychiatric services to pediatric clients? Dr. Stewart is licensed to treat psychiatric-mental health disorders across the lifespan. However, he aims to serve clients no younger than 13 years old, as different knowledge sets about medications and therapies are often required. PsychMatters may have consultants join who cover pediatric psychiatric needs. Please visit us often.
How does the telepsych virtual visit work? During a telehealth appointment, we will meet via a secure and HIPAA-complaint video link on your computer, phone or tablet. The link you use will be sent to you in the email reminder three days before your appointment.. Please click on the link and test it out before our appointment time to make sure you are all set and ready to go when we meet. Selecting the link on a desktop or laptop computer will open a new tab or window. Here is a list of tips for successful telemedicine appointments:
Test out the telemedicine link when you receive your email.
Please plan to be somewhere comfortable, private, and quiet for our appointment. To increase privacy, use head phones and download a white noise app on your phone and place it near the door during our appointment.
Please have the phone or computer stationary. You can prop it up against a wall or another object.
We will need download speeds of at least 10 MPS. If you have limited bandwidth, ask your house mates to limit their use of data if you are sharing wifi.
Please quit other applications like email and SMS and silence notifications on your devices to limit distractions.
Headphones or earbuds will improve our ability to hear each other and increase privacy.
Additional requirements: you need to be sober, clothed, and not driving.
LOCATION: although these are virtual appointments, medical licensing laws prohibit a practitioner from meeting with patients located in states where the practitioner is not licensed. To receive services, including any prescriptions, you must be located in Nevada, Oregon, or Washington..
